This DRIVER has completely messed up my machine. I had to restore the original
sound driver. It should look for SYSTEM compatibility before installing
itself on one's system. Just a ridiculous waiver on their site is not sufficient nor
very professional.

— Looking for Windows 98SE Realtek Audio in Parallels on MacBookPro Model A1229 late 2007 reporting High Definition Intel Audio
Pros: none
Cons: No Windows 98SE versons
Comment: Been looking for months for a compatible sound driver for the Intel board on the MacBookPro (MBP) 17". Windows XP in bootcamp installed Realteck AC97 sound driver. When I install n Windows 98SE the A4.06 AC 97 from Realtek site, does not install correct. Downloaded sp22521.exe from HP Presario web site. but it does not work on the MBP.
I do not find any drivers on this site for W98 for Realtek.
Does anyone know if W98 drivers are here?
Does anyone know a sound driver which will work on the MBP with W98?

Your Thread Title says "High Definition" - so "AC97" drivers will not help you - get the correct ones from Realtek.

Hello there, I've been using Realtek for years, but lately I had to upgrade my system to Vista. Everything was reformatted, downloaded the HD audio driver but the installation kept failing.

Hello there, I've been using Realtek for years, but lately I had to upgrade my system to Vista. Everything was reformatted, downloaded the HD audio driver but the installation kept failing. Luckily I've come to this post, and realized I don't have the Direct X 8.0 installed. I tried installing it, and everything went smoothly after...Now I'm not only happy with my newly upgraded OS, but I'm also completely satisfied with the quality of sound Realtek gives.

HI,
i have a new mainboard asrock 770 extreme 3 with Realtek 7.1 sound.
On my old mainboard gigabyte ga-965p-DS4 has a 7.1 Realtek Sound Chip too.
There i can change the outputs for my need e.g. blue = mic, red = headfone, yellow = speakers
i could hear the same on the speakers and my headfone at the same time.
now with my new mainboard i cant change this i can only hear on my speaker
do you know where i can handel this or is it now possible with my new mainboard?
Thanks in front for all helpers.
Yours Sincerely
SeameX

Download Realtek HD Audio Driver 2.16 (Supports Windows 7)
Realtek HD (High Definition) Audio Codecs is one of the most popular integrated on-board sound card devices used by OEM on PC motherboard to provide functionality of input and output of audio signals to/from a computer under control of computer programs. With the impending release of Windows 7, the Realtek device drivers for HD Audio Codecs that supports Windows 7 has been released and updated as well.
Realtek has added support for Windows 7 since version 2.15 of its High Definition Audio Codecs driver package. Other than the driver, Realtek also offers the 3D SoundBack Beta 0.1, which restores audio effects, including surround sound, reverberation, and spatial effects, for legacy game titles when running on Windows Vista.
